October Era Gym Project Update

As you've seen and heard, dirt is finally being moved! Depending on weather conditions, this phase of the project could take anywhere from 2–3 weeks. Here's a look at the process and what to expect over the coming weeks.

Phase 1: Dirt Removal and Soil Preparation

Crews are currently removing two feet of soil from the area where the new gym will be built. Once that is complete, they will water and compact the existing ground before beginning to replace the removed soil.

The soil will be replaced in six-inch layers. Each layer will be thoroughly watered, compacted, and tested before the next layer is added. This process is critical to ensuring a stable foundation for the new gym.

Phase 2: Foundation Preparation

Before the foundation can be poured, the anchor bolts must be fabricated. These bolts are set into the concrete during the pour and will secure the building's steel structure.

Fabrication cannot begin until the structural engineers and architects have completed their final review and approval of the steel design. So, if you see the construction site sitting with nothing but bare dirt for a few weeks, you'll know what we're waiting on!

Phase 3: Steel Structure

Once the concrete foundation is poured, we'll enter another waiting period. Steel fabrication currently has an estimated lead time of approximately six weeks after the plans are approved and the order is placed.

With that lead time, combined with the upcoming holidays, we do not anticipate seeing the steel superstructure begin to go up until after the first of the year.

While it may sometimes look like progress has stalled, several important steps must be completed behind the scenes to ensure the building is constructed properly. We'll continue to keep everyone updated as the project progresses. Thank you for your patience and support as we work toward bringing a new gym to Era ISD!
