6th Grade English Syllabus

Welcome to 6th Grade English Language Arts! This year, students will strengthen their reading, writing, speaking, and thinking skills through engaging texts, class discussions, and creative and academic writing. We will explore a variety of genres, including novels, short stories, informational texts, poetry, and myths. Students will learn how to analyze texts, support their ideas with evidence, expand their vocabulary, and communicate clearly and confidently. Our goal is to help every student grow as a reader and writer while developing a love for learning and literature in a supportive classroom environment.

Be on time

Come to class when you are supposed to. After 5 minutes after the bell I am required to mark you Tardy per the District and State guidelines. If you have an extenuating circumstance, communicate with me and we will work together to make sure that your needs are met and your attendance is in good standing.

Be prepared

You are expected to come to class prepared every day. Be prepared to turn in your work in a timely manner, reaching the level of expectation. You will be given a Chromebook by EISD and you will be expected to bring it, charged, to class everyday. It is your responsibility to make sure you are able to get your work done. All grading and late work will follow the EISD policy outlined in the Student Handbook.

Be respectful

Respect your classmates, yourself, and your teacher. In this class we are working together to learn everyday; the best way to do that is to create an environment where you feel safe. Treat your classmates like you would like to be treated and make sure that you are not ever discounting anyone else’s ideas, thoughts, or work. Make sure that you respect yourself as well! If you wouldn’t want someone to say it to you, don’t say it to yourself. Hold yourself to a high standard and continue working towards it everyday. Please show respect to your teachers - they are highly educated professionals who come to work everyday to help you learn and achieve your goals.
