English III is a course embedded in The American Experience. It is a broad spectrum English course incorporating grammar, research, and writing taught through the lens of great American literature.

All rules in the Student Code of Conduct are followed in my class. I have special distaste for cheating, as I am here to help students improve, and cheating disallows me to know where a student needs help. Thus, cheating will yield zeroes and may result in further action.

    Texts:

The main text for English III is Mirrors and Windows: American Tradition. Outside readings include Huckleberry Finn, The Scarlet Letter, The Crucible, and Fahrenheit 451.

    Grammar Unit:

Grammar, syntax, diction, and figurative language are essential to good writing. Thus, components of each will be discussed and studied.

    Greek Mythology Unit:

Greek Mythology overview with emphasis on derivational words.

3 page parenthetically documented paper will be written with explanations of Greek relation to modern day.

    Anglo-Saxon Unit:

Anglo-Saxon historical overview with emphasis on the transition from pagan to religious aspects. Essays and writings focus on the theme of exile.

    Medieval Unit:

Medieval historical overview with emphasis on modern day tie-ins. Parenthetically documented paper will be written with explanations of how medieval ideologies relate to modern day.

    Written Compositions:

Several papers will be written tied to the Environmental theme. Emphasis will be on original thought tied to research from the books we have studied and credible outside sources.
