    Curriculum Update

During the 2014-15 academic school year we are juggling many changes across the state. Primarily, this year the state has implemented new learning standards for math in grades K-8. Teachers spent the entire spring semester in professional development on our early release Fridays with Mr. Dietz planning and preparing to make instructional adjustments to meet the changes in standards, through our research we found that our teachers were already equipping our students for many of the changes.  With these new learning standards also comes new instructional materials in the form of textbooks. We have found our students are very well prepared to meet the increased rigor and complexity found with the new learning standards. As you can see in the attachment below the concepts learned have shuffled from grade to grade as well as implementation of completely new skills to be learned. We find it imperative that parents understand these fluctuations handed down by the state will result in some growing pains for students and staff. We encourage you to talk with your students about what they are learning in school and encourage them to ask for help when needed. Our teacher's websites offer additional links to helpful sites for student to access from home. We encourage you to visit with your child's teacher if you have any questions. After all, education is a joint effort between school and home. Without you, your child's first teacher, we could do nothing. We appreciate your continued support.
